Welcome, for crying out love!
I’m Tim Kochems. Like its title, this site holds joy, cries of frustration, despair, and anger, and exclamations of gratefulness and awe. It holds stories and reflections, images and poetry, hopefully some from you the reader. It is home for experience-near responses to our recurring suffering, the love we give and receive, and Love that holds and companions all.
Here’s a personal story related to the title
My mother died early in 2025 after almost four years of decline. Not long before she died, she cried out for help. A caregiver answered and soothed her. Later, my mother asked that woman, “Are you Jesus?”
I think my mother got it right. It is very hard to distinguish God or Jesus or Love from the caring love we experience every day. It certainly looks to me like my mother naturally cried to Love for love. Love was present, waiting, and responded with love. And my mother recognized her.
FORTHCOMING BOOK!
Did you know that Jesus didn’t cure everyone? And, even people he did cure probably suffered again? Think of Lazarus, one of Jesus’s best friends, the one Jesus brought back to life. He died again, and maybe suffered along with his family as he did so. I re-open the wounds of the Gospels for the many people in our lives whose suffering continues or returns, for their caregivers and families, in other words, most of us. I invite us to resonate with eighteen Gospel stories that I have imaginatively transformed in line with ancient spiritual traditions like those of Saints Francis of Assisi and Ignatius of Loyola as well as Jewish midrash.

Meet Tim
I am grateful for over 40 years working in psychotherapy with adult individuals and couples. Before retiring as a clinical psychologist, I practiced and taught psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy, utilized Internal Family Systems, and I companioned people in spiritual direction. In addition to a Ph.D. in clinical psychology, I earned a pastoral ministry certificate. And now I’m being called to more…

Love holds and transforms suffering like music holds any note, any chord, any rhythm, and even silence. Love, like music, is all about relationship.
