I Thirst

I was honored to present my reflections on “I Thirst” at the Paulist Center’s, Boston, Ecumenical Good Friday service on the Seven Last Words. My Word came from the Gospel of John 19:28-29.

This is a service I looked forward to and attended for many years. Each year, I felt it was the highlight of the religious services I attended that year. I think there are two reasons for my reaction. The first is how I am drawn to issues of suffering and love. There is no more poignant day in the Christian calendar for that combination than Good Friday. The second reason is that the quality of the preaching during the service and the range of points of view were always extraordinary. This year was no exception.

The whole service is quite beautiful and inspiring. It is also long, so you might listen to only one “Word” in a given period of time. Give yourself a gift: As you have opportunities for quiet reflection and want to be drawn into the mystery of suffering and love, listen to all of the offerings in this service.

The youtube link above will take you to the video of the entire service. My reflection begins after the Gospel verses for “I Thirst” are read at 1:37:42 in the video.
